Exactly! For some reason, some people in Darfur advocacy think that his article was a glowing love letter to the movement, like Kristof’s pieces from back in the day. They fail to see the undercurrent of doubt that’s now apparent in Kristof’s discussion of Darfur advocacy. You can read responses to the article like John Norris’s to see what I mean. Moreover, the inside scoop (i.e. what people within the movement are saying) is that these advocacy leaders aren’t just putting on a brave face and pretending to be pleased with the article. No, they’re actually, really, honestly happy with it and don’t see how it casts doubt on the movement or differs from Kristof’s past pieces. Unbelievable, I know. But that’s really what I’ve heard and it seems true if blog posts like Norris’s are any indication:
