It’s a little hard for me to report the good work of the NGOs after spending a week at the hotel where they keep their staff for 300$ a night not including meals….(I paid my own bill)

than again I know how hard it is to raise donations so I shut up about it most of the time.

No-one is saying that 4x4s have no place in an aid operation. But people living in Nairobi see it as their right to get one for weekends away and shopping trips. If only people back home who put their money into the little tins knew where it was going

REALLY GETS THE POINT ACROSS.
AND WHILE I MAY BE ABLE TO SEE THE POINT OF USING THEM IN ROUGH TERRAINS, IT REALLY GETS ME GOING WHEN I SEE THE SAME MONSTERS USED ON THE STREETS OF EAST JERUSALEM. NO REASON AT ALL. NOT AT THE COST OF EMISSION OR THE COST OF FUEL HERE….. 7 NIS(2.1$ )PER LITTER.

But I think Catholic Relief Services (the chap I quoted in the article) has really been at the forefront of reducing emissions and is often mentioned as a very good example. Not sure about which UN agencies were moving on this issue, but I do actually seem to recall Unep cited as one that was doing quite a lot to improve things.

Of course this is a slightly different issue to the UN-registered gas guzzlers that you are highlighting – the staff who get a tax break to buy a car and then spend it on a Prado. I see little prospect of them giving up the perk. Even if they do only use it to drive to Mediterraneo…

Read your article and curious to know if you ever got a response from any of these agencies about it. do you know if there are any that have actually implemented any internal policies? Is there someone out there that we can shout about for a positive example

I also recently heard “that on World Environment Day, one of the flagship events was to launch a “less-fuel” guzzling…errr….lawn mower. Apparently it looks a bit like a rat with a handle…”
Can you just picture the scene: all those unepies oggling over their new ecofriendly lawnmower while there are hundreds of 4wd cars parked behind them…
