Even the police, every single one, take bribes. I have also learned that being white makes you a target for every corrupt autocrat, and almost every citizen who sees you as being a walking cash-till.
Our compound is fairly secure but thieves still come in the night to try and steal anything which isn’t nailed down. If I was to go out and confront them I would probably be harmed.
Is it not right to protect your own property.
