Jonas Bendiksen publishes the latest Magnum in Motion project today. Called The places we live, the project focusses on people who live in four slums across the world; from Caracas to the large Kibera slum in Nairobi, the Dharavi slum in the suburbs of Mumbai and the Indonesian capital Jakarta. He talks about the project on the Magnum blog and how publishing pictures on the Internet feels quite different from the accompanying book or an exhibition,

Oddly, I feel like it is a very different thing putting these stories up on the web, as opposed to the book, magazine articles or exhibition. I had the blessings of all the people in the project to use the material for everything I wanted—I really only used homes where the people were quite eager to tell their stories. But still I somehow can’t shake the nagging sensation that putting their homes and lives on the web is somehow different from the other mediums. link

Marcus Bleasdale is a bit of a regular in these parts and it seems the Oslo-based photojournalist has been busy of late. The above frame is taken from a recent commission in Georgia. Beyond all out war, Marcus has also visited Venezuala and the USA. There are some great pictures (as usual) in all these presentations. We interviewed Marcus last year.

During his weekly TV program “Aló presidente” of Sunday, September 16, Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chávez lost his cool when a BBC journalist, John Sweeney, asked him the following question: “Why are you spending Venezuela’s oil money outside of Venezuela instead of here?”
Chávez, who is trying to eliminate freedom of the press in Venezuela, just like his Cuban mentor did in Cuba 49 years ago, was visibly upset. “That is a stupid question. I cannot answer a stupid question because whoever tries to answer a stupid question would sound stupid,” said the Venezuelan dictator.
Chávez went on to tell Sweeney that only “someone stupid would ask such a stupid question.” link

That’s a lot of stupid.
