Needless to say this seemed counterintuitive in a country that had been dropping like a rock in Transparency In’tl indexes for corruption–if the point of the aide was to help people and change things. [And this was a good while before the Kenya elections.] On the other hand, if the general status quo was OK with the donors and the desire to help the citizens was secondary to the gov’t-to-gov’t relationships as a matter of foreign policy interest, then it makes perfect sense.

Of course there is much more on the seamy side, and it should be aired. Nairobi is a small town when it comes to expat scandal and garbage. And Nairobi is the epicentre of Somali politics, IGAAD, EU, US, UN, and of course, DFID Somalia. Stay in touch. The world needs to hear more.
