I have read articles about poor Turks living in villages near the border who want it open, but no one is recognizing the fact that Turkey chose to close it at the expense of these poor people. Turkey is already under pressure by the EU to open the border, so why is Armenia making concessions?
Why can’t the border open without a historical commission or recognition of borders and territorial integrity of neighboring countries?
Also, why are we in such a rush to sign the protocols before any legislation is passed to protect the local economy? Look at this article about onion farmers in Getashen, http://hetq.am/en/society/getashen/
My worst fear is that our homeland is going to turn into one big Walmart. I understand that Armenia has limited resources and has to import products, but I have heard nothing about protecting the few domestic resources we have.

Sounds very small — 3,000 according to most estimates and even organizer expectations — given the size of the LA Armenian community.

Off to the Beverly Hilton to cover the protests taking place around the Armenia/Turkey protocols. People are being bussed in from all over Los Angeles. Here’s to hoping I don’t get swallowed whole.

She’ll likely have photos and an account of what sounds as if it’s going to a big demonstration (the first on such a scale so far, incidentally) on her blog:
