I think there is no option but not stop trying to reconstruct nationalist myths that breed hostility from both sides. Plough’s observation is awesome (the original link won’t open though), this is silly to value ‘land’ and ‘nation’s territory’ more than human.

Regardless of how many years have passed or will pass from the occupation of Karabakh, Azerbaijan will never give up on this historic and legitmate land. If Armenians want to live in peace and without any fear of war, they should consider only that kind of independce that doesn’t violate Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and respects its current and internationally recognized borders.

One small comment. You wrote: “…Yerevan and Baku now virtually mono-ethnic and suffering from the lack of charm and energy that cosmopolitan cities generally possess. A curse ethno-nationalism in the South Caucasus might be, but visit Tbilisi to see what cultural diversity can also offer.”
I would respectfully disagree with you on Baku though. I assume you probably have not been there. Although it lost most of its cosmopolitan character following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it is still the most cosmopolitan and multi-ethnic, multi-language city in the South Caucasus. It is still quite usual to hear Russian being spoken in downtown and a sizeable Russian (or Russian-speaking) community still leaves there.

Unfortunately, the clouds are gathering. Unless the international community starts taking this seriously, this could go towards war.
