Without sweeping police reform that’s effective, things are only going to go form bad to worse. The question is whether Calderon and Genaro Garcia Luna can pull that off.

Real life police work is nothing like televised police drama. Real life law enforcement follows life — taken by surprise, learned routines are overcome by the exigencies of tending to the wounded. Yes, of course, the police should’ve preserved the crime scene. Do I fault them for not doing so? Not at all. They’re human, too. Even under the most ideal circumstances, life is not CSI.
