Weak police as the allies retreat from Afghanistan http://www.beta.frontlineclub.com/mission-accomplished-weak-police-as-the-allies-retreat-from-afghanistan/ Championing Independent Journalism Mon, 11 Mar 2013 12:20:29 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 By: Paul Carline http://www.beta.frontlineclub.com/mission-accomplished-weak-police-as-the-allies-retreat-from-afghanistan/#comment-3446 Mon, 11 Mar 2013 12:20:29 +0000 http://www.beta.frontlineclub.com/?p=27400#comment-3446 Isn’t it simply incorrect (or dishonest?) to speak of “retreating” or “withdrawing”? There are around 550 American bases in Afghanistan. I have not heard that they are to be abandoned. And any serious discussion of Afghanistan has to tackle two issues: first, that the whole operation (invasion and occupation) was based on lies and was in fact an unprovoked act of aggression which constitutes a war crime; second, the need to investigate the complicity of the US and UK governments (and possibly others) in exploiting the heroin trade to finance other interventions, among other things. If there is a drug problem in Afghanistan, its causes lie in large part in the two issues mentioned above.
