It was interesting to read your blog. I’m after help in fact. I’m an author not a journalist. I’m in the midst of writing a novel which as a backdrop is focused on Somali Pirates. I’m thinking of jumping in and out fast to Mogadishu to capture a few images for a book trailer.
Any contact details you have for security and or the Peace Hotel would be much apriciated.

I am a Somali-Brit who left Mogadishu as a 14 year old. I am now a struggling freelance journalist based in the UK. I commend your brave efforts to tell the story that fear prevents others from telling. I hope we can keep in touch and please stay safe…

I was probably just lucky to hit it on a couple of quiet days. I guess there are times when it’s not so cool. Are you staying at the Sahaf or the Peace hotel? If you are at the Peace, say hi to the guys from me – especially Africa, the head of security there. If you need back up, he’s a good man to know.

If you’re looking for a great picture story, go to the big ruined hotel down by the old harbour. There’s a fisherman who lives on the top floor there, amidst the ruins. we did a TV story on him in June; great visuals.

And we’re not going to Bakara market. Did you go there? It’s still pretty rough.

I was there twice this year, for a total of almost four weeks. It’s a fun city. Where are you staying? I was interested to see your disagreement with my blog notes on security in the city. I haven’t been there since June this year, when we definitely needed security, even though it had to be a little more discreet than it was in January. If you can now work without technicals and gunmen, that’s excellent news. Best wishes and have a good trip.
